Hi! I'm Joana.
A freelance motion designer, illustrator, visual artist and educator with over a decade of experience of experience creating visual stories for global brands.
I create fun, bold and playful illustrations and animations that make your projects come to life!
I specialize in illustration and 2D animation, and I love combining the two to turn complex messages into expressive visuals.
For the past 15 years, I’ve collaborated with brands and agencies globally, turning corporate stories into illustrated and animated experiences, covering everything from social campaigns and brand identities to explainers, podcast openers, and title sequences.
Alongside my creative work, I teach Professional Practices and Portfolio Workshop for the Concept Art courses at ETIC Lisboa, helping students level up their skills, negotiate like pros, and showcase their work with confidence. I also tutor the Concept Art and Storytelling course, cheering students on as they experiment, play, and grow as artists.
How I Work?
I often freelance with creative studios as an animator and illustrator, taking on leadership or direction roles when needed.
I can also work directly with clients on productions from concept through to design and animation, taking full-service projects further with my trusted freelancer network.

Every artist walks a path full of twists and turns and I’d love to take you along mine!
When I was 8 years old, I created a pretend TV channel with opening sequences done on Spectrum ZX! And I made the whole family watch it, of course!
I got my first computer when I was twelve, and instead of playing games like other kids, I "played" with Poser and Corel Draw.
Later, I went to a multimedia and film course. It was there that I discovered my passion for 3D, motion design, illustration, and animation.
Now I live in Lisbon, Portugal, with my extremely talented husband Tiago, my awesome son Simão, our two crazy cats, Peanut and Pudim, and the unbothered queen of attitude, Nisca, still pretending she’s in charge from cat heaven.
Always holding a coffee in one hand and a book in the other. A proud cat lover, plant mama, bookworm, and full-time coffee drinker.
