The Challenge
I was approached by the amazing team at Shortfuse to create illustrations for a video developed for the XII CPLP* Sports Games in Dili 2025.
The CPLP* Games are more than just a sports competition. They encompass friendship, solidarity, and cultural exchange among Portuguese-speaking nations.
The goal was to promote ethical behavior in sports, to foster solidarity and respect beyond competition, and to encourage positive attitudes among athletes, coaches, officials, and spectators.
*Community of Portuguese Language Countries
The Solution
To bring the video to life, I created illustrated scenes that capture the spirit of the Games and highlight fair play, solidarity, respect, friendship, justice, and equality, all while combining dynamic characters with colorful, detailed visuals that are easy to follow and make you want to keep watching the action unfold.
Deliverables
~ Full visual development from initial concept to final illustrations
~ Original character and environment designs
~ Storyboard + Styleboard
~ Illustration files prepared and optimized for animation
Visual Approach
Using a bright and lively color palette inspired by all the countries taking part in the Games, I created a visual style that feels welcoming, vibrant, and inclusive, with lively and expressive characters designed to feel approachable and full of personality, reflecting the diversity and friendly connections of the athletes and spectators.
Each illustration plays with light, shape, and motion to bring the scenes to life, while subtle use of focus and blur adds depth and a sense of movement. The compositions are carefully balanced to guide the viewer’s eye, highlight key actions, and make the story easy to follow.
Working on these pieces was a lot of fun and a great reminder of why I truly enjoy doing this! 🤩
Big shoutout to Shortfuse for bringing them to life so brilliantly! You can check out the video at CPLP Games youtube.
