The awesome team at Digital Works approached me to animate two awareness videos for SRIJ - Serviço de Regulação e Inspeção de Jogos (Gambling Inspection and Regulation Service) about the dangers of gambling and how we can gamble safe and responsibly.
I loved figuring out how to visually explain the challenging safety balance of setting limits, real-world balance, and SRIJ regulations.

The Challenge
To create two awareness videos about gambling risks and safe, responsible play that use an uplifting tone to really educate players on safety and maintaining a healthy relationship between the real world and the gaming world.
The Solution
I developed two separate animations mixing relatable characters with simple icons and screens featuring practical examples. The videos inspired players to set time/money limits and laid out safety rules for using licensed SRIJ sites.

Visual Approach
I started by designing our main characters. I created them to be expressive and relatable, so viewers could instantly connect with the story. They served as our visual guides, showing exactly how to keep a healthy relationship between the real world and the gambling world, making this complex topic way easier to handle.
The color palette was a mix of SRIJ colors with warm and contrasting colors. The contrasting colors helped key things stand out and added a nice visual boost to the whole look.
The two animations actually had slightly different visual approaches.
The first video focused on two stories showing practical examples of responsible gambling, both online and in a casino.
I mixed the characters and narrative with drawn mockups of a casino mobile app, including a slot machine, and sports betting app screens, along with a physical slot machine environment.
Both stories wrapped up by reinforcing the central message: "Your life is much more than a game!".
The second video was focused on safety and what players must look for to guarantee they are gambling securely. The visual approach relied on a mockup of the official SRIJ website, drawn mockups of sports betting app screens, and clean icons.
Since there was no voiceover, key sentences were added to explain the intentions and concluded the videos. The second video was reinforced with the final call to action: "Don't risk it, always play safely!".
By blending these two distinct visual approaches, I ensured players were both inspired toward a healthy relationship with gaming and fully educated on essential SRIJ safety regulations.
